This comes from my friend, Marney Bruce, again.. thanks mucho, Marney!
Hi everyone – happy new moon! This is such an exciting time with spring bursting out all over. And we have rain!!
Soon we will be able to see the crescent moon in the evening, growing steadily up to the full moon on April 9th. After the moon is full, it sets later and later at night and completes it’s daily journey during daylight hours, but the weaker light can’t compete with the sun, so we can’t see it.
• Full Pink Moon – April This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn. One of the common names of Amelanchier canadensis is shadbush, because it blooms when the shad spawn. Look for it starting to bloom soon.
