Full Moon – May

By Mare Cromwell
From my friend, Marney, again…
Happy New Moon, everyone!  I am reveling in this wonderful, drawn-out spring and getting out to natural areas as much as possible. The cool weather has put a lot of wildflowers on hold, so there’s lots to see.
We will have several clear nights to see the growing crescent moon. Tonight the moon sets about an hour after the sun sets, so just after sunset look in the western sky. On Sunday the crescent Moon, Mercury and the Pleiades star cluster will line up in the western sky for a beautiful sunset conjunction.
The full moon in May will be on the 9th, and appropriately it is called Full Flower Moon. Other names include the Full Corn Planting Moon, or the Milk Moon.
