Winter Connections – how do you connect to nature in the dead of Winter?

[originally written 1/16/08]

It’s about 35 degrees outside. Wish there were lots of snow on the ground… I’m getting weary of the drab browns and greens and grays of winter. January drab.

So… I’m thinking of how little time I’m outside these days. Yet I have my own little inner garden of orchids and other plants that have joined me inside for the colder months. Two of my orchids have been blooming for two months now. Another three have flower spikes and I can’t wait for them to fully pop open.

Then there are some branches of some christmas cacti that fell off their parent plants and they’ve been sitting in water staying quite green and alive. Think I’ll pot them up in the basement this weekend.

Gotta keep the plant connection going.. even in the winter.

I’m curious what other folks do to keep their nature connection going in the winter.
