It’s October 23 and while gardening this afternoon, my assistant, Kidada, reminded me that we have only two more weeks of gardening left in the season. This is always a bittersweet time of the year for me. While on one hand I would not want to be working outside in the bitter cold of winter, yet I do so love all that fresh air and miss it sorely in the coldest months of the year. Already, the simple morning act of throwing on a t-shirt and shorts has shifted into layering on the clothes- including a winter cap – before I head out the door,. And I refuse to head out and work in frost-laden beds first thing in the morning, so we’ve bumped our start times back to 10am each morning.
Today we had to move the leaves aside to find the weeds at a new client’s property. Thank god not all the leaves are down yet.
I guess one of the biggest signs of colder temperatures is my cat Max’s reclaiming the space between my butt and the back of my desk chair. He never tries to crawl in there unless the temperatures are cold and he wants to take advantage of the warmth of my body in the nook there at the back of ‘our’ upholstered chair on wheels. This is when we start sharing the seat together. Maybe he’s the one who really gives me inspiration for all the writing… I’m channeling Max!
