Dear Garden – Poem

A poem that I wrote in 1996, june. While visiting the Occident Arts and Ecology Center, a stunning place north of San Francisco, that has really flourished since I was there. Permaculture classes. Art classes. Seed collections and native plant sales. and more. Very cool place.

Dear Garden

Dear Garden,
north as  you are,
you speak to me of tenderness
and healing.

of acceptance and forgiveness,
in mullein and poppies who volunteer their love
and light
between lettuce and beans
and seeds from distant hands.

you speak to me of patience and nurturing —
a being of wisdom deeper
than the incarnate one-s
who tend you.

A trust runs true
in the sowing of the seeds
belief in the fruit you
give.

You emanate a compassion and stillness
that my Self absorbs
while sitting in the afternoon sun,
playing with Fattie, the cat,
who wants to make love
with the brown, brown
soil.
