Flit Within – Poem by mare

Flit Within

This one moth

this very moth quiet in the corner

of the window pane

you snuck in when I opened the door last night

seeking the glow of the interiors

of my hearth

and I just discovered you

tucked against the painted wood

silhouetted by the baring maple branches outside

yet your time is beyond my glassy reflection

beyond the knowing of your subtle peach-silver

effervescence

so I surrendered you

you rode my hand well for the transit to the door

that place of welcome and farewell

from there we stepped out

me standing on the porch to wave you off into the cool breeze

you to flit in the afternoon world of late October

in this glimpse of life you’ve graced me

now gratitude alights onto my hand

I carry it inside.
