How Species Save Our Lives – NYT’s series

A friend sent me the link to this article recently and I find it fascinating. And also disturbing how little regard we do give naturalists and their work. Kudos to Sloane and his concocting milk chocolate after visiting Jamaica (though I’m much prefer the dark chocolate options).

This article reminds me of all the tropical rainforest talks that I gave while an activist/grad student in Ann Arbor. So many cures for cancer and most of our other ailments can be found in nature. The Madagascar Periwinkle is only one example. There is more value in leaving forests and other ecosystems as intact as we can, while harvesting them and collecting specimens sustainably. Can we learn this?
