There is growing interest across the nation to find ways to raise more food in the cities. Many cities are known to be veritable food deserts where local residents cannot access wholesome fresh foods within miles of their homes. I thought I’d share an organization with some excellent resources that I recently discovered called Agricultural Urbanism.
From their website:
“Agricultural urbanism (AU): is a planning, policy, and design framework that focuses on integrating a wide range of sustainable food system elements into urban planning projects and neighbourhoods.”
This group is based in Canada and appears to be an excellent source of tools and articles for municipal planners and urban agricultural leaders as they plan to implement more intensive food production in urban areas.
