Death and Rebirth – Moving, Shifting, Trust Leaps and Spirit

It seems that so many people I know are going through quantum transitions. And one of these women, a friend, is Mary Batson. Mary is a very gifted writer and has been organizing monthly women’s gatherings at her place in the Annapolis area. And she is now moving and going through some big shifts in her life. And it is coming into winter, a time of cocooning. Converse energies, and yet Mary is a strong woman and will move with grace through it all.

The following is an email from Mary about death and rebirth and some profound wisdom from Joseph Campbell and Jean Shinoda Bolen. And I responded with some thoughts about trusting.  It is such a wondrous gifts to have sister friends to share with on this level. Blessed gift…

From Mary Batson (12/7/11):

Hello ladies,

It’s that time of year again – everyone has twelve places to be at once, and most of them, yesterday. In the midst of all this, I hope you each take time to care for yourselves, as well as those around you, on a deeper level, asking what you really need, and honoring that.

Because most of our group have other activities for Friday evening, I’ve decided to cancel this month’s circle. I hope each of you can take a few moments, wherever you are, to pause and reflect in this time, and to honor this passing cycle. With the eclipse approaching, it’s no wonder that we all have so many places and things and situations calling for our attention!

A passage that caught my attention last night – and if you’ve already seen this on Facebook or in the Front Porch Rambles newsletter, please bear with my repetition of these comments —

“In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell writes that the hero’s journey begins with the Call to Adventure. ‘The call rings up the curtain, always, on a mystery of transfiguration – a rite, or moment, of spiritual passage, which, when complete, amounts to a dying and a birth. The familiar life horizon has been outgrown; the old concepts, ideals, and emotional patterns no longer fit; the time for the passing of a threshold is at hand….. Whether by choice {usually the hero’s position} or by necessity {usually the heroine’s situation}, a person heeds the call, and the stuff one is made of – the soul – emerges as challenges and losses are met on the journey.” From Crossing to Avalon: A Woman’s Midlife Pilgrimage, by Jean Shinoda Bolen.

Beautiful friend Lorrie Schoettler {www.lorrieschoettler.com} recommended this book, following one of her amazing readings, and suggested I spend time contemplating what is dying in my life right now, within, and without. I just started the book, and that little “birth and death” comment on page seven took my breath away, because, as many of you know, that’s exactly what I’ve been talking about for months, now – about feeling the painful contractions of birth {AKA “being squeezed by life”} – and now, the last few weeks – about death. Isn’t it amazing how a second set of eyes can completely shift our perspective?

Just thought I’d share this – perhaps it might be a useful exercise for YOU as well, if you’re feeling a similar squeeze… what’s being born in your life right now? And what’s dying, inside and out, to clear space for this newness? Have you caught a glimpse yet? Don’t worry if you haven’t – “not knowing” is part of it, and it’s just a matter of time. The baby has crowned, and now all one can do is wait. And just like in childbirth – relax. Keep breathing. Don’t fight the contractions. Resist the urge to push. It’s not time yet.

A dark winter night is perfect for searching within…. I’m taking advantage of these long evenings to do a lot of reflection – and that sounds like a good plan for Friday as well… if it resonates, join me in Spirit!

Peace, and happy holidays,

Mary (Batson)

Mare’s response:

Mary,

This is so beautifully written and I am so resonating with all that you shared. Thank you for this.

I closed on my house today after sleeping there last night in a sleeping bag, and packing everything up that was left this morning. It is most exciting to be heading to my new shared home with my friend for this new phase in my life.

The past two to three weeks have been surreal and the whole real estate transaction went to a harrowing place… I won’t bore you with the details but suffice it to say, I’m walking away with a bit less than I thought I was going to get, thanks to a foreclosed property that sold just before mine down the street. Sigh… but I’m not really complaining. I feel very blessed to be in the position that I’m in — very.

I could go on and on… definitely death and rebirth on so many levels going on. Deep soul work. And I’m so, so fortunate to be living here with my soul-sister friend. We are so connected on so many levels.

I would love for you to come out and hang with my housemate and myself. We’ve been having long conversations about our personal shifting and trusting the great leaps. What we’ve really been arriving at is the trust that there are weavings of energy supporting each of us in our shifts. So some days when we are guided to just do nothing but go for a walk, we know that is really the right thing to do since things are working behind the scenery to support us. Those things that are so invisible and spiritual and fun, and way exciting when they finally manifest to us — they are continuing to work and weave and create the right situation for us, unbeknownst to most of us. ;~)

So… why don’t you come on out for a visit? Seriously… we can do up a big smudge and crank up the wood stove in the cozy kitchen here and have some fun in this time of great changes. I’d love to see you… ;~)

And if that can’t work out… that’s all cool too. I am totally trusting that you will land on your feet in a good place, with the right set of teachings all associated with it.

Hugs and blessings… and some good silliness mixed in, being sent your way. ;~p
