Shamans and Neuroscientists
Shortly after the last ice age, humans developed agriculture as the major world religions began to appear. In Asia, rice was cultivated; in the Americas, maize (corn); and in Europe and Mesopotamia, wheat was the favored grain. For the first time, the human brain began to operate on sugars derived from abundant grain crops rather than from proteins and fats that came from wild meats, vegetables and nuts.
This change in diet altered the chemistry of the brain, and impaired our capacity for achieving higher states of consciousness. And while the rulers and priests still ate a protein, fat rich, and plant based diet, their pyramid building slaves and soldiers lived on grains, and the new religions begged “give us this day our daily bread…”
The fats in our Paleolithic ancestors diet (including Omega 3’s) provided the superfuel required to activate higher brain function, and their plant based diet protected them from the high incidence of dementia, cancer, diabetes and atherosclerosis found in today’s civilized world. Our Paleolithic ancestors lived longer and enjoyed more disease-free lives than we do today. After the rise of agriculture human lifespan was dramatically shortened and our ancestors did not live long past the age of forty, which suited their slave masters. You did not get much work from an old slave or fighting from an ageing warrior.
Accompanying the change in the chemistry of the brain was a profound change in psychology. Man the hunter became man the warrior. Men left the family for the fields and for war. The father became absent from the home and women became providers, caretakers, and the personal property of men. Fast forward to today. While our Paleolithic ancestors favored higher states of consciousness and shamanic ecstasy, the plants that bring us to these states are outlawed today. Instead we favor the grain based alcohol that dulls the mind, and the pharmaceuticals that stifle the brain.
Shamans discovered the plant products that can repair our brain and give us access once again to the states of ecstasy that allow us to taste infinity, heal the body and the soul. Today we can get these in the form of supplements and brain foods available in health food stores. In our training program (at The Four Winds Center) you will learn how you can repair your broken brains, restore your mitochondria, and create exceptional health using shamanic techniques for healing the luminous energy field that is the matrix of all life.
Mare note: I find this to be very fascinating considering how I have dropped almost all of the carbs out of my diet due to blood sugar and enlarged lymph node issues. The rice, wheat, and processed sugars were making me very faint and weak and not helping my compromised immune system. My homeopathist recommended that I experiment with no carbs and white sugar (still do honey and occasional dark chocolate. Well maybe more than occasional dark chocolate) after I told her what I was experiencing and my concerns. And I felt 100% in a day. I have not looked back. And my health has significantly improved.
I should also add that almost all of my meat and greens come from a local farm that raises their own cows, pigs, lambs and chickens. I know there is a terrible cost environmentally and healthwise with supporting the corporate meat industry and I refuse to support this. Yes, the food is more expensive but so is having serious health issues. For anyone living in Maryland, England Acres Farm is a tremendous resource and they are open on the weekends.
I’m a huge believer in the Paleolithic Diet now and have lost weight, have far more consistent energy, and my thinking is far clearer. As for the ‘the luminous energy field’, perhaps this too is happening. All I know is that spiritually I feel far more balanced and grounded and maybe even luminous. This has yet to be seen!
